What to Say When a Customer Says "Not Interested"
4 min read·Updated June 2026
They are rejecting the pressure, not you
Not interested is a reaction to feeling sold to, and it usually fires before the person has even heard what you do. It is reflexive self-defense. Arguing with it confirms you are exactly the pushy salesperson they were bracing for.
Agree, and ask permission
Do not fight it. Step back: completely fair, and I am not going to twist your arm. Out of curiosity, what is making it a no for you right now? Said calmly, with nothing to defend, this disarms the reflex and often gets you the real reason.
Why the calm works
The harder you push, the higher the wall. Pull back and the wall has nothing to push against. You are not trying to overturn the no. You are trying to understand it, and understanding is what turns a reflex into a conversation.
